I'm teaching two classes this summer at the Seattle Artist League! Details and sign up links are below:

Color Matching: 1-Day Workshop
Create a color reference notebook, and learn to create repeatable paint formulas at my Color Matching Workshop this summer!
SUNDAY, JULY 20th
10:30am - 2:30pm
Beginners welcome. All levels.
Ever mixed the perfect color—then panic, fearing you’ll never be able to recreate it?
Are you always guessing how to remix a color—and wasting paint in the process?
This one-day workshop gives you clear, practical tools to take control of color in your painting. You’ll learn how to mix with intention, match colors from paint chips and photo references, and record your formulas so you can recreate them later.
We’ll cover color theory basics, matching color from observation, and how to simplify complex colors into 3-5 pigment “recipes.” You’ll learn how to create repeatable formulas and how to keep your mixes economical—so you don’t have to worry about running out of a color mid-painting.
Everyone will start a personal color notebook to keep track of formulas, tests, and palette ideas. You’ll create a palette that reflects your personal preferences—while learning how to deepen and refine those colors to make them more interesting and nuanced.
This is a hands-on, applied color theory workshop. You’ll leave with a notebook full of mixes, a better understanding of how color works, and a more confident, intentional approach to painting.

Intuitive Color: 4-Session Shortie
SATURDAYS, July 26 - August 16
10:30am - 1:30pm
Find your confidence, build a personal color palette, and learn tips and tricks for using color in your work with my 4-Day Intuitive Color class. Come spend your Saturday mornings with me and learn all about color!
Beginners welcome. All levels.
Do you feel like you’re “not good with color”? Do you always reach for the same pigments and wish your color choices felt more personal, more expressive, or just more you?
This four-session workshop is designed to help you discover and develop your own intuitive color palette. Through guided exercises and playful experimentation, you’ll build a personalized approach to color that reflects your preferences and strengthens your creative voice.
We’ll explore how to:
Identify the colors you naturally gravitate toward—and expand beyond them
Choose and refine a palette that’s personal, cohesive, and surprising
Use both favorite and “challenging” colors in ways that serve your painting
Explore relationships between color, mood, and meaning
Create a personal color reference notebook to record mixes, discoveries, and ideas
This class is about building confidence, fluency, and curiosity with color—not following formulas. You’ll try new approaches, test combinations, and discover what works for you. Expect some short studies, some color play, and a lot of aha moments.
By the end, you’ll have a notebook full of color ideas and tools, and a clearer sense of how to approach color in your painting practice with both structure and freedom.
I can't wait to see you there!
